There’s nothing like a good cozy mystery to immerse yourself in all the best things about Autumn – Crisp days, comfy sweaters, crackling bonfires, vibrant leaves, steaming bowls of chili, and toasty warm drinks. Put on your fluffy socks, light a fall candle, cuddle under your cozy blanket, and fall into one of these delightful mysteries.
1) Now who wouldn’t want to visit Sugar Ridge, Vermont in the fall? Catherine Brun’s In the Blink of a Pie takes place at Thanksgiving time during a pie baking contest at Sappy Endings Farm. With the small-town Vermont setting, atmospheric fall writing, and delicious foods, this one is perfect! Just watch out for that poisoned pumpkin pie!
2) Dive into Leah Dobrinska’s Mayhem in Circulation for a fall festival taking place in Larkspur, Wisconsin. You’ll meet Greta and her librarian friends as they hit the books to try to uncover who is vandalizing their town, threatening to put a damper on the festival. You’ll want a coffee in hand as you get lost in this world of bookish puns, colorful leaves, and a twisty murder mystery.
3) Mischief Nights Are Murder by Libby Klein is sure to be a hoot! I love this hysterical series featuring a gluten-free baker and B&B owner, her feisty cat Figaro, and her wacky Aunt Ginny. Throw in Halloween, a haunted dinner tour, and a pet psychic and I am all here for it! Cozy up for a frolicking good time with this one!
4) The Cider Shop Rules, by Julie Ann Lindsey brings all the best fall feels – a fall festival, apple cider, Blue Ridge Mountains foliage, a pumpkin farm, hay rides, and a corn maze. Yes, please! This is such a fun adventure. Read it with a mug of apple tea and a pumpkin muffin nearby!
5) A Shot of Scandal by Simone Stier is on my reading list this fall. It is set in late summer/early fall and features a true crime podcaster turned café owner, a high society gala, and murder. With the falling leaves on the cover, and I a rumor of pecan pie inside, I can’t resist this one! I’ll take a mug of coffee and a slice of pie with my reading, please!
6) A Bonus! – We can’t leave out Axe Me No Questions by me, Paula Charles. This one is set in early October during the annual Timber Festival in Pine Bluff, Oregon. Widowed hardware store owner, Dawna Carpenter, is looking forward to watching the lumberjack competition, until she falls over the legs of one of the lumberjacks with his own throwing axe in his chest! This one has all kinds of fall goodness—a chill in the air, crunchy colorful leaves, flannel shirts, a ghost cat, pumpkin pie, hot coffee, and a fall festival. Great for a rainy day read with a snack and hot beverage nearby!
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the season, these five reads will give you all the best cozy feelings.
I’m always looking to add to my fall reading stack? What other atmospheric cozy mysteries would you add?
