I'm delighted to feature Canandian author Rose Kerr and her new cozy mystery series this month. Rose, Annie McEwen, and I got to spend some good quality time together this past April during the Malice Domestic convention. We talked, laughed, and ate, and I'm so honored to call her my friend.

Rose's first book in her new Mia Reid, Archaeologist, Mystery series recently hit the shelves. I was lucky enough to read an early copy of Death at the Scottish Broch and absolutely loved it!

From the back cover:

Dr. Mia Reid arrives on the Isle of Skye for a summer dig. She learns her friend and trusted colleague, Dr. Ethan Carter, is dead and valuable artifacts are missing. Interpol agent and Mia’s former lover, Luke Forbes, is working the case with the police. They suspect murder and a smuggling ring. Mia and her team uncover a treasure with ties to Bonnie Prince Charlie. Then two students are kidnapped, forcing Mia to trade the treasure for their release. During the rescue, she finds a collection of missing artifacts. Are the smugglers and kidnappers the same people? Can she dig up the truth before someone else dies?

I asked Rose how she learned about ancient Scottish Brochs. Here's what she had to say:

Well, when I was researching Scotland for possible archaeological sites, I found an article about a broch. It sounded interesting... A round, dry-stone structure that could have been used to defend against enemies or it could have been used as a residence for the chieftain of a clan and his family. More research led me to learn that brochs are only found in Scotland, they date back to the Iron Age (2,300 years ago!), and there are more than 500 brochs still standing. I also learned that Bonnie Prince Charlie was on the Isle of Skye in 1745 and I let my imagination fly. What if he'd taken refuge in a broch? And what if he'd left some treasure behind?

That's so fascinating! Thank you for sharing with us, Rose!
