5 Cozy Mysteries with Not-So-Spooky Ghosts

Updated: 1 hour ago

I have always loved a good ghost story, and crave a spooky tale now and then. When I discovered paranormal cozy mysteries, I was delighted to find stories full of the not-so-spooky kind of ghostly visitations. In fact, many of them are down right charming. Pour yourself a mug of something delicious and settle into one (or all!) of these books for a visit to the other side of the veil.

1) The Crescent Moon Mysteries by Tara Lush has quickly become one of my favorite paranormal series. Set in a quirky Florida town, the first book in the series, Eat, Pray, Hex, finds protagonist Amelia inheriting a spooky inn from an aunt she barely knew. We have witches, a cat named Freddy Purrcury, and a ghost who likes to mess with Amelia by turning off the air conditioning in the sweltering August heat. I warn you—you’re going to want to binge this series and you’re going to roll with laughter.

2) Cuddle up under your coziest blanket while reading Olivia Blacke's A New Lease on Death. You'll meet Ruby as she moves into her new apartment only to find she has an unwanted roommate - grumpy Cordelia who died in the apartment just a couple of months ago. This one is quirky, a little dark, and so much fun!

3) In Living in Bliss by Sara Isabelle, the ghost is Lyssa Jones recently deceased father, who delivers unsolicited and witty life advice by talking directly to Lyssa, though she doesn't actually ever see him, at least in this first book in the series. Set in a lakeside town in Iowa, I thoroughly enjoyed this charming start to the series and am excited to dive in deeper!

4) Murder in G Major by Alexia Gordon is chef's kiss for a ghostly cozy mystery adventure! Classical musician Gethsemane Brown accepts a position teaching music at an Irish school. The job comes with a cottage once owned by a legendary composer. The problem is, he's still hanging around, he's grumpy, and he wants Gethsemane to solve his wife's murder--and his own! I adore this series, and am delighted it has been turned into a Hallmark movie series with the second movie out this month!

5) If you book a room at the Sedona Bed and Breakfast in The Guest is a Goner by Carly Winter, you just might meet owner Bernadette Maxwell's grandmother, Ruby. The only issue is, Ruby's been dead for awhile. That doesn't stop her from helping Bernadette solve a murder! This one is on my TBR pile and I can't wait to dive in!

Bonus! 6) And since I'm the one writing this post, I'm allowed to add my own books to this list! In Hammers and Homicide, the first in my Hometown Hardware Mystery series, Dawna Carpenter is pretty sure her dearly departed husband, Bob, is still hanging around the house. She's trying to keep that information to herself since her adult children already think she's a little bonkers, but then her cat, Lilac, who has been gone for over a decade, jumps onto Dawna's bed one night, curls up and goes to sleep. From then on, Lilac is pretty much in the house all the time. And could that childhood friend her brothers always acted like they couldn't see have been a ghost? As the series grows, so does Dawna's abilities to see and interact with the ghosts around her.
