5 Things About Dawna Carpenter

Dawna Carpenter is the main character in the Hometown Hardware Mysteries written by Paula Charles, and if there is one thing she's sure of, you most definitely should be the main character of your own life.

1.  Dawna lives in Pine Bluff, Oregon, a small mountain town in the Northeastern corner of the state. She adores her hometown and, while she'd like to travel some and see more of the world, her roots run deep in this Oregon soil and she is adamant she'll never live anywhere but Pine Bluff.

2.   She doesn’t realize how funny she is. Dawna has a quick wit and a sarcastic nature which makes her naturally comical. She’s not trying to amuse you, she’s just being herself.

3.   Dawna sometimes sees ghosts. So that everyone in town doesn’t think she’s crazy, she does her best to keep that fact close to her chest. Her late husband, Bob, sometimes hangs around the house, and Lilac, her sweet cat who has been gone for a good decade, has taken to sleeping on her bed recently. The hauntings aren’t scary, but comforting instead.

  1. That handiness comes in…well…handy, since she owns and operates a hardware store. Dawna and Bob have owned Carpenter’s Corner for nearly 40 years. Now that Bob’s gone, she’s running it by herself, and doing a fine job of it.

  1.  Dawna knows her way around tools and can remodel a bathroom without any help, thank you very much. Every now and again, a man who doesn't know her comes into Carpenter's Corner and is condescending about a woman-owned hardware store. She doesn't waste any time setting him straight.

Bonus Trait: Dawna's involvement in her community and genuine interest in her fellow Pine Bluffians gives her a leg up when murder comes to her little hamlet. She'd gladly sit down with you over pie and coffee at the Stage Stop Cafe to have a chat about your theories.
